Fall Festival Fun

I always dread going to the Fall Festival but once I get there, I am so thankful that we went. There's something about a fall festival that "takes you back" to when you were younger. Not much has changed about them since I was a kid. Except that no one bobs for apples anymore - thank goodness!

The weather last night was perfect! It felt just like fall. The kids had a good time with the sucker pull, cotton candy, petting zoo, witch's brew, grab bags, and putting booth. M was on call so my brother, Rett, joined us. He was a good sport and Sunshine especially enjoyed holding his hand all night long. But by the end of the night, she was in real tears! My brother is 18 and doesn't realize how hard he teases his little nieces and nephews. He kept holding his hand out for Sunshine to take her toy prize, and right when she'd reach for it, he'd close his hand. Well after about the fifteenth time she had just about had it with his game and she burst into tears. He laughed and looked at me with a grin, "Is she serious??" I asked, "Sunshine, are you serious?" By then she was despondent and cried even harder, "He won't give me my toy and every time I reach for it he takes his hand away. I just want my yo-yo!" Rett giggled and gave it to her and all was well.

Anyhoo...I enjoyed the fall festival as much as the kids did. I hope they grow up and have some of the same memories that I have of my fall festivals when I was in elementary school. I remember eating candy apples, finding a one dollar bill on the sidewalk, and bringing home a goldfish because I threw a ping pong ball into a fish bowl with a fish in it! Good times!

Happy Fall Y'all!

Just spent the weekend with two of my sisters...

doing this:

And it was a complete blast!

My older sister (Vintage) and I rent a room out of Coco's, gift shop in downtown Daphne, Al. This past weekend, they had their 2nd Annual Caravan Sale on their front lawn. There were probably 12 other vendors there, as well. My older's sister's name is really Ashley, but we call our little business"Vintage and Vavoom". As I've said before, she is "Vintage" because she's older (her idea - I swear!), and I'm "Vavoom" simply because she is "Vintage".

Back during our single years, we were roommates when we both lived in Birmingham. We shopped for furniture and knick-knacks for our apartment at local flea markets and thrift stores more out of necessity than "just for fun." However, we realized that we had a knack for creating something out of nothing and we truly enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. We were hooked. So here we are, 15 years later, doing it again.
Here's a peek at our "rummage" from the weekend:

And here is one of our customers who had no idea that we are taking her picture. But we really liked her hair! It was fine and thin like ours, but still had a cute style!

The cousins had a ton of fun too! Not only did they make a little money selling bottled cokes...

...but they also drank all the Coke they wanted!

Have a Happy Monday!

Oh my ears....

I have so much to share, but right now it's late and I only have a second. But L'il Man and I just returned from Fairhope where we spent the weekend with two of my sisters and their children. I'll blog more (probably way more than you want to hear) about that tomorrow. What is really on my mind right now is the drive to and from Fairhope. M stayed home with the girls and I only took L'il Man with me. He talked my ear off the entire way there and back! I guess he was just so excited to have me all to himself, since it's such a rare occurrence.

After talking non-stop for three hours today, he finally seemed to have run out of things to say. But then he said, "I can talk humpback." I thought I misunderstood him so I said, "Huh??" He said"I can talk humpback." Then he started moaning these really low but loud sounds... apparently just like a humpback. So I "talked humpback" back to him. Then he replied in humpback. I started dying laughing. He asked, completely serious. "What are you laughing about?"

Um...I thought we sounded silly "talking humpback".

Silly me for thinking that.

Good night!

Just about the sweetest thing...

Sunshine carried the cross today during chapel. She was so precious and sweet. After she placed the cross in its base, she walked down the aisle, kissed me on the lips, then returned to her seat. I melted!

Boys will be boys....

L'il Man had his 4 week "check-up" this morning with the orthopedic physician. I was hoping he'd come home without a cast, but no such luck. We were actually given a choice: a softer splint/sling or a shorter cast. Because he is playing flag football and because he still goes, goes, goes, we opted for the shorter cast. I'd hate for him to have the softer splint then re-break it during a football practice or game. And he only has to wear the shorter cast for two more weeks. Dr. W said, "The biggest difference is that you'd be able to take the splint off and take a shower." We still opted for the hard cast.

As we were driving back to school, L'il Man said, "I didn't want that splint 'cause I don't wanna take a shower."

Ha! I should've known!

I guess boys will be boys...

Sunshine had a sad day at school today. Her very best friend wouldn't let her slide down the slide unless she paid. So Sunshine said, "I'm not gonna be your friend anymore because I don't have any real money and I want to slide down the slide." Her very best friend told her to go away.

Sunshine turned around, heartbroken.

I saw it all and it broke my heart too! Kids will be kids, and I'm sure Sunshine will say (or already has) something similar, but it still breaks a mom's heart to see her child's heart break.

She was sad for a good little while. On the way home, she said, "She says mean things." I said, "Sweetheart, you know she loves you." She said, "I love her, too." The arrow pierced my heart a little further.

We came home and enjoyed cupcakes and ice cream for lunch! We painted flower pots and got our hands really messy. She perked up!

Thanking God for this little munchkin! And for all of my munchkins!

Party Pics!

I had LOTS to say about this party, but it all disappeared with the click of a button. I really have no idea where all of the text went! But when I get another minute (IF I get another minute...) I'll try again. But quickly...at the bottom are several pics in a row of Sunshine and Mimi singing. That was my persoanl favorite part of the party . They sang a duet to "Bubbly" by Coco. Talk about sweet! Sunshine stared into Mimi's eyes throughout the entire song. They had been planning this for several weeks and it was precious!

And aren'tmy parents awesome to dress up in their fanciest clothes!?!

Sunshine didn't want a cake. She only wanted "cupcakes with plain icing, no sprinkles." I tried to convince her that plain cupcakes weren't fancy enough, but she insisted! So we made these fancy little "cupcake sleeves" out of colorful cardstock and fancy scissors.

Happy Birthday Dear Sunshine, Happy Birthday to you!
